I picked up this book after a request to review. I had no knowledge of it going into it, but man oh man, am I ever happy that I asked. This is the best indie book I have read in a long time. It begins in present day setting, giving no information about the history between the main characters, Caroline and Jack, but they are in some kind of trouble. It is an excellent hook, and I was drawn in immediately, curious to more about this couple and how they had gotten into their predicament, and in fact, exactly what their predicament was. Then, as I went on, I was treated to a heart-warming flashback to how Caroline and Jack met, and ultimately fell in love. I adored both of the characters as I learned more about them, and developed my own little crush on Jack. There are continuing flashes to present day where the author spoon-feeds you information about what has brought Jack and Caroline to the danger the are ultimately in. Flashing back and forth is always a difficult endeavor for an author, yet Ms. London was able to seamlessly master the art. It was both fantastically suspenseful and maddening in my desire to know more, more, more. I devoured the story in a day. The style of prose is fluid, and easy to follow.
I immediately picked up the other two volumes of this saga which I know I will also devour. I wish all five volumes were available so I could know how this all wraps up, but I am hooked enough to anxiously await the remaining two.
Brava, Ms. London! I’m a major fan now!
